About Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic is one of the largest regulated, primary-contact health care professions in Canada. Chiropractic is non-invasive, hands-on health care that focuses on the musculoskeletal system. Chiropractors use a manual approach to treatment, while providing a diagnosis and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints.
Chiropractors may use a combination of treatments centered on the specific needs of each patient. After taking a complete history and diagnosing a patient, a chiropractor will develop and carry out a treatment plan, recommend rehabilitative exercise and other adjunct therapies and may provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling.
Chiropractic care is a primary health care option for many conditions, such as back, shoulder, neck and low back pain. Chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with other conditions.
Chiropractic care is also effective at symptom relief for patients with chronic conditions and has been shown to help with:
- Neck pain
- Back pain
- Strains and sprains
- Repetitive strain injury (RSI)
- Work and sports injuries
- Stiffness in the back, shoulders, neck or limbs
- Overall health and well-being
Chiropractic is a regulated health profession within Canada, United States and most countries around the world. Almost 2 million people in Ontario rely on chiropractic care every year to help maintain healthy and active lives.
About Chiropractic Pediatric Care
Many parents bring their child to see a chiropractor. The birthing process can be strenuous on both mother and baby. It is appropriate for a baby to be checked as soon as possible after birth. Unless a child has an obvious problem, it can be difficult for parents to know when to seek chiropractic care.
There are some signs for parents to look for:
- The child’s head consistently being tilted to one side
- Feeding difficulties in the very young infant
- Favouring nursing from one particular side
As children learn to crawl, stand and walk, they take many tumbles. These apparently innocent, frequently occurring events can also create minor spinal trauma.
School aged children, adolescents and young adults
As children become school aged, prolonged sitting and carrying heavy backpacks can create problems in their developing spine.
Sport related traumas are also a common reason parents seek chiropractic care. Chiropractic adjusting procedure are modified to fit the needs, size and unique spinal condition of the child.
Very light pressure is used when working with children. All our chiropractors are trained in paediatric adjusting procedures.
